TTG Travel Hall of Fame 2017 Raffles Hotel

Raffles Singapore

What do you think has kept your organisation so successful in what it does all these years?

Raffles Hotel Singapore has always evolved in order to remain relevant to our well-travelled and discerning guests. This is key to our continued success.

The year 2017 is a very special year for us as we celebrate our 130th anniversary and it is also the year that Raffles is undergoing a careful and sensitive restoration as part of the brand's evolution to remain distinctive and relevant.

Raffles' service is also what makes the hotel a global icon of luxury hospitality. Our dedicated team of colleagues, who deliver personable and top quality experiences for our guests, is an essential element. This legendary service is the reason for our guests to return; time after time, year after year, generation after generation.

What latest innovations in products and services has your organisation introduced this year?

With 2017 being the year of our 130th anniversary and the commencement of our highly anticipated restoration, Raffles Hotel Singapore has been dedicating the year's engagements to celebrating our illustrious history with our guests, colleagues and the community.

We have opened our doors to the community with staycation packages, a history exhibition and tours, and invited Singaporeans to visit the city's icon before we close for restoration.

The hotel also hosted celebrations including a secret postcard sale and our 130th anniversary charity gala to commemorate the occasion while raising close to hald a million dollars for Autism Association (Singapore) and Community Chest.

An organisation is only as good as its people. So, how is your organisation investing in the next generation of leaders?

A large number of our colleagues have been with the hotel for so many years; some more than twenty years. We believe in providing constant on-the-job training, including adapting to technological changes. There are succession plans in place in all departments to ensure continuity. At the same time, we also provide opportunities for colleagues to take on leadership roles in various committees within the hotel that will give them the chance to add variety to their work. — Christian Westbeld, General Manager
