Hertz’s story began with young entrepreneur, Walter Jacobs, in 1918, after he opened his first car rental business in Chicago, Illinois, with a dozen Model T Fords. The demand to help people travel easily by car was clear, with the fleet size increasing to 50fold within just five years - soon after, the business was purchased by John D. Hertz.

From humble beginnings, helping people travel has remained core to the Hertz business, wherever people are in the world.
